You were my favorite.
You projected nature and your surroundings in which I saw the movement and experience of your mind.
You were the first women artist that I admired.
You were 23 when your artwork brought fresh air into the American art scene.
You said you absorbed your memories and your hands expressed them.
Large scale, soft but powerful, and an endless flow of experience.
If we sat down to have tea I would have told you these things.
But now I will tell you, and share my favorites.

“You have to know how to use the accident, how to recognize it, how to control it, and ways to eliminate it so that the whole surface looks felt and born all at once.”
